Third Space Endoscopy

The term "third space endoscopy" refers to a variety of endoscopic techniques carried out in the potential space located inside the GI tract wall. Working in the organ wall's submucosal layer is what this refers to most frequently. Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) and Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy are the two most frequent procedures carried out in the third space. Additional instances of third space endoscopy procedures carried out at Duke include submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER), endoscopic gastric pyloromyotomy, and tunneling recanalization of the esophagus. The Dr Pabitra Sahu Gastro also performs a number of other advanced luminal endoscopic procedures that are not done in the third space, such as endoscopic suturing, endoscopic stent placement, transoral incisionless fundoplication, full thickness resection, and endoscopic mucosal resection.
